KATHMANDU, April 23: Fishtail Air on Friday said that it has successfully airlifted the body of a Danish mountaineer from the slopes of Mt Kyajo Ri (6186m) using a sling operation.

Issuing a press statement, the chopper service provider said they airlifted the body of Philip Ulrich (52) as per the request of Danish embassy as the body had landed at an inaccessible point.

“Our newly acquired AS 350 B3 chopper retrieved the body using sling operation. The operation was carried by Captain Sabin Basnyat and technician Purna Awale. While Sabin Basnyat controlled the chopper, Awale hung on to a 45m long rope and tied the dead body to a harness, after which it was flown to a safe place,” the statement added.

This is the first such operation carried out by Fishtail team after receiving rescue training at ´Air Zermatt´ in Switzerland.
