KATHMANDU, Feb 19: Most of the central level government offices and corporations have snubbed parliamentary Public Account Committee´s request to send details on the use of government vehicles. Only four among 25 ministries and a few central secretariats and commissions responded to the PAC letter within the 15-day deadline that expired Wednesday.[break]

Education, Water Resources, Physical Planning and Works and Health and Population, which are believed to be on top of the list to provide vehicles to unauthorized people, did not send details.

Ministry of General Administration, Youth and Sports, Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs and Prime Minister´s Office were the only ministries to respond. Judicial Council, Attorney General´s Office, Keisar Library, Election Commission and Comptroller General´s Office were central level offices to respond.

All of them said they had not provided any vehicle to unauthorized people.

"We are yet to receive information from most of the ministries," PAC Secretary Som Bahadur Thapa told myrepublica.com on Thursday. "The PAC wanted to get details with a holistic purpose of stopping misuse of government property."

The PAC had taken up the issue based on the reports that influential politicians and bureaucrats have been misusing luxurious vehicles belonging to various projects.
