16 remanded for five days

KATHMANDU, Jan 24: Kathmandu District Court on Monday sent 16 individuals arrested on charge of electricity meter tampering to five days of judicial remand.

KATHMANDU, Jan 24: Kathmandu District Court on Monday sent 16 individuals arrested on charge of electricity meter tampering to five days of judicial remand.



The decision means the Metropolitan Police Crime Division has got five days to investigate against the 16 individuals, including 12 staffers of Nepal Electricity Authority.

Police have arrested them for tampering with electricity meter and taking money from large scale consumers and factories. They were arrested with tools like hook, cutting pliers, knives, tape and torch light and also a car, according to the police. 


Most of the arrested NEA staffers are meter readers. They were found issuing lower tariff bills and adjusting the figures in the meter later on.
