KATHMANDU, April 1: Dish Media Network (DMN) and Marigold Entertainment have decided to join hands to launch a single Direct-To-Home (DTH) -- a digital satellite television channel service -- under the brand name Dish Nepal.

Previously, the two companies had acquired separate licenses to operate DTH services. The two companies announced their joint project amid a program on Thursday. They are planning to launch the service from July this year. [break]

Speaking on the occasion, RK Manandhar, president of DMN said customers would be charged for its DTH service depending on the number of channels they subscribe. The rates have not been disclosed though.

Manandhar said the company would initially transmit around 74 national, international, sports and entertainment channels with the clean feed.

Director of Marigold Entertainment Laxmi Prasad Poudel highlighted the features of the DTH technology. “All channels disseminated through this network will come in a clear feed and one can transfer this line from one location to another,” he said.

The company has imported satellite transponder, compression system, conditional access system and set top box (STB) that are required for DTH network from renowned global companies. Poudel further informed that the cost of STB will range from Rs 3500 to 6500.

Six companies -- Satellite Channel Pvt Ltd, M Vision, Telko Investment, C J Techno Dreams, Dish Media Network and Marigold Entertainment -- have acquired licenses from the Ministry of Information and Communication to operate DTH service in Nepal.
