KATHMANDU, March 1: The government has assured the Election Commission of abiding election code of conduct and providing required logistics to make the May 14 local election a success.

In a meeting with the election commissioners at the EC headquarters, Jamal on Wednesday, DPM Nidhi expressed commitment of holding elections within the stipulated deadline by bringing all forces on board the election. “We will abide by the election code of conduct and the elections will be conducted in time,” EC Spokesperson Surya Prasad Sharma quoted the DPM as saying.

Hours after enforcing the election code of conduct the EC has been holding a series of consultations with the stakeholders on how to enforce the code of conduct effectively. As part of consultations, Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal and ministers were invited at the EC.

During the consultation, some ministers have expressed reservations over the provisions of the code of conduct. They demanded that the number of vehicles be increased in the poll campaign.

While the most ministers were present at the EC, PM Dahal escaped the meeting.

Immediately after the consultation with the DPMs and ministers, the election commissioners have been holding consultations with the chief secretary Somlal Subedi and secretaries of ministries with a view to enforcing the election code of conduct effectively. The meeting is underway.
