WFP Surkhet chief dies mysteriously

SURKHET, March 23: The Surkhet chief of the United Nations World Food Program (WFP), identified as Mike, died under mysterious circumstances on Tuesday morning.



He died at around 8 a.m. while sleeping in the Namaste Nepal Hotel in Birendranagar, the police said.[break]



A colleague had made a phone call to Mike at 6:30 a.m. to ask him to reach Surkhet airport. Mike had said that he would not travel. He was found dead one-and-a-half hours later.



Hotel manager Yam Kumar Budathoki said he looked into the room after WFP staff Sunit Koirala asked him to do so. Budathoki peeped in through the window and saw him dead. Mike was staying at room 235 of the hotel.



Mike, 57, is a South African national. His dead body has been airlifted to Kathmandu for post-mortem. Police suspect he died of a heart attack.
