DHANGADHI, March 22: Normal life in the far-western districts was disrupted on Monday due to a general strike called by a little known underground outfit called Bhishma Ekta Parishad (BEP), demanding reinstatement of Nepal as Hindu state.

Schools, industrial entities and local markets remained closed. Vehicles remained off the roads after cadres of the outfit set fire to two buses and a motorbike in Kailali early in the morning. According to police, protestors vandalized a dozen of vehicles. However, police had not arrested any cadres of the outfit until the evening.

Hundreds of passengers heading to various destinations were stranded at various places due to the strike.

´Sindhu´, the head of the outfit, in his statement demanded that Nepal be reinstated as a Hindu state, the cow be given continuity as a national animal and referendum be held before taking final decision on some important issues.
