MPRF Spokesperson Jitendra Narayan Dev, who is also a member of the political committee, told myrepublica.com that the meeting formed the committees, each of them being headed by leaders JP Gupta, Bharatendu Mallik and Ram Lal Sotiyar.
"The teams are asked to submit their reports to the political committee in 10 to 15 days after visiting the districts," said Dev, adding that the committees will look into who should be the party´s candidates in the constituencies and what are the chances of the party´s victory winning, besides making an analysis of the rival candidates.
Six Constituent Assembly seats have fallen vacant following resignation by Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal (Maoist) from Rolpa, Sher Bahadur Deuba (Nepali Congress) from Kanchanpur, Bijay Gachchhadar and Upendra Yadav (MPRF) from Morang, Dev Gurung (Maoist) from Kaski and President Dr Ram Baran Yadav (Nepali Congress) from Dhanusha constituencies.
Friday´s meeting of MPRF also discussed, among others, ongoing peace negotiations between the government and Tarai armed groups, recruitment row in the Nepal Army and MPRF´s relations with Nepali Congress and Communist Party of Nepal (Unified Marxist-Leninist). "The party chairman will present a report to the political committee on all these issues in about 10 days," said Dev.
The first meeting of the political committee, since its formation on February 6 by the party Central Committee, also decided to launch a nationwide campaign to consolidate the party, which is the fourth largest in the Constituent Assembly and third in the government. "This will involve orientations to grassroots party cadres and empowering local party committees," said Dev.
Upendra Yadav to attend UML convention
The meeting also decided to send party chief and Foreign Minister Upendra Yadav to Butwal to participate in the opening ceremony of the national convention of the CPN-UML on February 16, according to MPRF Spokesperson Dev.
