KATHMANDU, April 21: Minister for Health and Population Pradeep Paudel has announced a program to add and expand 15 new services across eight federal hospitals throughout the month of Baisakh (mid-April to mid-May).
According to Dr Prakash Budhathoki, the spokesperson for the Ministry, the program aims to improve and expand services at federal hospitals under the policy of service enhancement and expansion, which will be implemented in Baisakh.
As per the plan, in the second week of Baisakh, Shree Harsha Hospital will expand its surgical ICU service by adding nine more beds.

Similarly, Bharatpur Hospital will start Cath Lab services. Along with this, the hospital will also add a burn ward, simulation lab, infertility clinic, and lactation management unit. Bharatpur Hospital is expected to complete the addition of cath lab services by the end of Baisakh.
Bhaktapur Cancer Hospital will begin its PICU and Pediatric Ward services in the second week of Baisakh. Additionally, Bheri Hospital has announced plans to begin kidney transplant services starting from the second week of Baisakh.
Similarly, Pokhara Academy of Health Science will add 20 beds to its emergency ward by the end of Baisakh. Narayani Hospital in Birgunj will start Cath Lab services by the end of Baisakh, while the GP Koirala National Center for Respiratory Diseases in Tanahun will formally begin hemodialysis services in the third week of Baisakh.
In Dhangadhi, Geta Hospital will set up a modular OT, emergency ward, and oxygen plant simultaneously within the third week of Baisakh.
Minister Paudel had instructed Health Secretary Dr Bikas Devkota to make arrangements for the addition and expansion of services at all federal hospitals. As a result, 12 federal hospitals added and expanded some services in the month of Chaitra, and this initiative has continued into Baisakh.
According to the ministry's spokesperson, Dr Budhathoki, programs for expanding services in additional federal hospitals are currently being implemented within this fiscal year.
“Some hospitals have added services, and some are in the process of adding them,” he said, “Work is ongoing in line with the minister's policy of improving and expanding healthcare services.”
