15 injured in Tundikhel stampede discharged (update)

KATHMANDU, Jan 16:  Fifteen of the 16 people injured in a stampede at Tundikhel in Kathmandu on Monday have returned home after treatment. 

The remaining one injured is receiving treatment at the National Trauma Centre of Bir Hospital. 

The stampede had taken place in separate programs organized by the Magar and Tharu communities to observe the Maghe Sankranti festival.

Spokesperson for the District Police Range, Kathmandu, Superintendent of Police Kumud Dhungel told RSS that a large number of people from the Magar and Tharu communities had gathered at Tundikhel to observe the Maghi festival. Sixteen people were injured when the stampede occurred all of a sudden. "Fifteen of the 16 injured have been discharged while one Karishma Magar, 14, of Rautamai Rural Municipality-8 of Udayapur district who lives in Manamaiju of Kathmandu, is undergoing treatment at National Trauma Centre," he said.

Trisana Magar, 12, Anjana Tamang, 12, Rejina Ghale, 19, Nikita Magar, 16, Rekha Chaudhary, 30, Anisa KC, 16, Kalpana Chaudhary, 25, Mandira Basnet, 22, Mina Thapa, 40, Riza Resmi Magar, 19, a police person Prithvi Budha Magar, Nisha Rana Magar, 25, Nirmala Shrestha, 22, Reshmi Nepal, 27, Yunika Baral, 11 and Karishma Magar, 14, were injured in the incident.
