JALESHWOR, Oct 27: A man was allegedly murdered by two of his friends over a dispute relating to a metal chain worth Rs 50, said the police. The incident took place three days ago at Hardiya of Pipara Rural Municipality in Mahottari district.

According to Deputy Superintendent of Police Dilip Kumar Giri, spokesperson for the District Police Office, Mahottari, Basanta Paswan, 19-year-old son of a local Raj Narayan, was stabbed to death by his two friends, Dipak Malik, 19, and Amit Malik, 18, over the dispute. The police have arrested the two suspects.

On Wednesday evening, Basanta bought a metal chain for Rs 50 from a local fair organized in the village on the occasion of Dashain festival. Dipak, one of the suspects and friend of Basanta, took the chain for a photo. Later, Basanta asked him to return the chain, but he refused leading to a quarrel. The quarrel flared up to the extent that Dipak with the help of Amit knifed Basanta to death, said the police.  The suspects originally from Jaynagar of Madhubani district in the Indian state of Bihar were staying with their maternal uncle at Pipara Rural Municipality-5 in Mahottari district. They became friends with Basanta during their stay in the village.

The local people reported the incident to the police after recovering the body of Basanta in the farmland of a local Jagadish Sah the following day.

Following this, a team from the District Police Office, Mahottari, led by DSP Giri arrested the suspects who were hiding in the house of their maternal uncle. The police also recovered the murder weapon and blood-stained clothes they were wearing during the incident.
