KATHMANDU, August 2: A clash erupted between the police and protesters after the latter surrounded the District Police Range, Teku, demanding the arrest of advocate Bhagwati Pandey who gave controversial statements.
The police also fired tear gas canisters to disperse the protesters. The police have also detained some protesters. The situation in Teku is reported to be tense now due to the clash.
Advocate Pandey had made controversial remarks during a television interview saying that marriages between brothers and sisters take place in the Muslim, Magar and Tamang communities. The Tamang community has been protesting against his statement.
