The report, yet to be made public, has mentioned journalist Singh’s bitter relations with Maoist central leader Matrika Yadav following the abduction and alleged killing of her father and brother by Maoists in the past.
An NHRC source said Uma had consistently and continuously written stories critical of the Maoists after the alleged killing of her father and brother. The source said she had written many stories on Maoist central leader Yadav in the past.
It said Maoists involved in the alleged murder of Uma’s father and brother, might have become very apprehensive about Uma’s growing public status. She had bagged many national awards, besides developing into a powerful journalist in the Tarai.
The report says Uma had made remarks in public that she would take her revenge against those involved in her father and brother´s abduction and killing. It states that Maoist cadres had continued with the seizure of her land as part of their effort to instill fear in her.
“Circumstantial evidence shows that family feud was not the only reason for Uma’s murder,” the report has stated, adding, “Maoist cadre Shrawan Yadav had good relations with Uma’s sister-in-law.”
While demanding a further probe into the case, the report has also mentioned the involvement of armed groups in Uma’s murder.
