41 elephants born at breeding center since its establishment

CHITWAN, May 19: The elephant breeding center in Chitwan National Park has recorded 41 births of calves since its establishment in 2044BS. 

Among 55 elephants in the breeding center, five were brought from abroad while others were born in Nepal. Information officer at CNP, Ganesh Prasad Tiwari, informed that among five elephants brought from abroad, four are from India and one from Thailand. 

Among the total elephants in the breeding center, four have grown old. Even the elephants used for hunting by the then royal family in the park are in the center now. Elephants are also used for patrolling in the park. Elephant patrolling is conducted in the places inaccessible to jeeps.
