KATHMANDU, Feb 13: Chief Justice Cholendra SJB Rana has been suspended from his post following the registration of impeachment motion against him at the Parliament Secretariat.
As per Article 101 (6), CJ Rana will not be allowed to discharge his duties unless the impeachment motion registered against him is brough to a conclusion by parliament.
NC leaders Gagan Thapa, Minendra Rijal, Pushpa Bhusal, Jeevan Ram Shrestha, Dev Gurung among 98 lawmakers registered the impeachment motion against CJ Rana on Sunday.
Though any member of parliament with the support of at least 25 percent of the members of the House of Representatives can register an impeachment motion, it requires a two-thirds majority in parliament to endorse such a motion.
