The CPN-UML also demanded with the Maoist leaders not to introduce new ordinances without consulting the parties in the ruling coalition. "We said that we are not ready to accept the ordinances introduced by the government without consulting us," said CPN-UML General Secretary Jhala Nath Khanal.
Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal at the meeting held in his residence in Baluwatar argued that the ordinances were introduced with good intentions and asked CPN-UML leaders to first study it, according to Khanal.
"We will study the ordinances today and the cabinet will take decisions on these Monday," he said.
The leaders also agreed not to speak in public about contentious issues related to police and national army.
Earlier on Sunday, an emergency cabinet meeting scheduled for Sunday afternoon was postponed till Monday to facilitate further discussion on the controversial ordinances.
The government has been widely criticized for its plan to introduce three ordinances for setting up special economic zones, investment board and commission on disappearances in the absence of parliament.
Sunday’s meeting was attended by Prime Minister and Maoist Chairman Dahal among other top Maoist leaders, CPN-UML General Secretary Jhala Nath Khanal and senior leader Madhav Kumar Nepal among others.
