The VDCs situated in the hilly areas are at risk of landslides while those situated in the plains region at risk of floods, said Balram Luintel, a member of the district disaster management committee and the Information Officer at the District Development Committee.[break]
Luintel said altogether 22 VDCs in the district are at risk and out of these 12 are at high risk of flood and landslide.
The VDCs were categorized as such following a discussion among the stakeholders from the district. There are altogether 36 VDCs and two municipalities in Chiotwan district.
VDCs located near the Riu River, the Rapti River and the Narayani River are at high risk of flood during the monsoon. The District Disaster Management Committee has adopted preemptive measures to deal with these disasters, Luintel said.
