Badri finishes 4th in chess

KATHMANDU, Dec 5: Nepal champion Badri Lal Nepali secured fourth position in the Third Jugal Kishore Newatia Memorial International Open Rating Chess Championship on Saturday. [break]



Neeraj Niraula also emerged victorious in the ninth and the final round of the chess championship that concluded in Assam, India. Hera Kaji Maharjan finished second in the unrated category as he lost the final round competition.



Balaram Pun, Sanjay Maharjan, Jeevan Mainali, Padma Rupchan and Birendra Kumar Mahato won the final round but failed to secure a position among the top 20.



Meanwhile, Bishwa Bijay Ghimire, Bikash Kuluju, Balaram Priye, Brij Bihari Sah and Suman Shrestha ended in a draw.



Rabin Shakya, Devanshu Ghimire, Sajin Maharjan, Hari Chandra Chaulagain, Ram Shah, Raju Subedi, Damodar Khaiju, Prem Krishna Maharjan and Prakash Nepal got defeated in the last round.





White House in Friendship Football final



KATHMANDU, Dec 5: White House College defeated Xavier International 3-1 and advanced into the final of the First Friendship Football Cup 2009 organized by the Higher Secondary Schools´ Association Nepal (HISSAN) on Saturday.



Sanjiv Rijal, Asim Karki and Santosh Rai netted a goal each for White House while Bibhushan KC scored a consolation goal for Xavier during the match held at the ANFA Complex, Satdobato.



Likewise, Pinnacle entered the semifinals from another pool thrashing Don Bosco 5-0. Ramesh Shahi scored a hat-trick while Dipesh Jha and Suraj Budhathoki contributed one goal each for the winning team.
