11-1 assault on Gandaki takes Janajyoti to semis

KATHMANDU, Aug 9: Janajyoti Higher Secondary School, Rautahat, and Thekaraj Secondary School, Dhangadhi, booked place in the semifinals of the Coca-Cola Cup Inter-school Girls´ National Football Tournament.



Janajyoti thrashed Gandaki Boarding Higher Secondary School 11-1 in a Group A match of the final round of the tournament at ANFA Technical Center, Chyasal, on Monday. Yasoda Lama scored four goals while Renu Nagarkoti also completed her hattrick for Janajyoti. Aasha Basnet struck twice while Sapana Lama added a goal more and Gandaki´s Sarmila Gurung scored an own goal to add to the team´s misery. Aastha Shrestha´s goal was the only consolation for Gandaki.



Thekaraj School beat Araniko Higher Secondary School, Nawalparasi, 2-1. Mina Chaudhari and Hima Chaudhari scored a goal each within the first three minutes of the match for Thekaraj. Amita Sharu Magar scored a goal for Araniko School, who attempted a comeback but failed. Araniko got out of the tournament loosing both matches of the group stage. Meanwhile, Radhika Higher Secondary School, Morang, which beat Araniko on Sunday, also reached the semifinals.



Likewise, Bhagawati Higher Secondary School, Morang, Siddhartha Vanasthali School, Kathmandu, and Gandaki Boarding Higher Secondary School, Kaski, won their respective matches in the boys´ category of the tournament on Monday.



In the group-D of the final round, Bhagawati defeated Thekaraj School 5-1 at the Dasharath Stadium as Subas Limbu alone scored four goals. Subas opened his account in the fifth minute and added more in the 35th, 40th and 59th minutes completing hattrick. Bhakta Bhandari scored fifth goal for the winning side in the 73rd minute while Bishnu Chaudhari scored a consolation goal in the 61st minute for Thekaraj.



Vanasthali beat Social Public School, Kaski, 2-1. Vanasthali took lead in the eighth minute as Social´s Suman Gurung scored own goal. Kavi Shrestha doubled the lead in 31st minute. Social tried to bounce back in the second half with the goal of Dal Bahadur Gurung in the 57th minute but they failed to equalize the score. As Little Flowers School, Jhapa, played a draw against Vanasthali on Sunday in the first match of the Group A, Social School got out of the tournament after Monday´s 2-1 defeat.



Gandaki thrashed Niten Memorial School (NIMS) 3-0 in the last match of the day. Adarsha Thapa opened Gandaki´s account in the 13th minute while Ram Prasad Chapagain and Anukaran Shrestha added a goal each in the second half to knock NIMS out of the tournament.
