DOLAKHA, Nov 14: An ambulance donated by the Indian Embassy for the people of Singati Bazaar is being used by a private hospital. The ambulance (Ba 6 Cha 2659) has been providing round-the-clock service at Dolakha Community Hospital Pvt Ltd, Charikot, for the past three months.

Employees at the hospital admitted that the ambulance was being used to ferry medicines for the hospital from Kathmandu. The Dolakha Ambulance Service Committee (DASC) had allotted the ambulance for exclusive use in Singati.

A member of the ambulance committee said that the hospital had provided loan to repair the almost run-down vehicle.

Treasurer of Singati Ambulance Committee Devendra Khatiwada said the ambulance was kept in Charikot as the road to Singati was damaged during monsoon. “The ambulance is not only used for the exclusive service of hospital patients. It has been kept on the hospital premises due to security reasons,” Khatiwada claimed. Hospital proprietor Amrit Budhathoki echoed him.

“The ambulance is not exclusively carrying patients for our hospital but also for other hospitals in the headquarters. So, how can you say it has been misused?” Budhathoki argued. Khatiwada added that the committee itself collected the charge for ambulance services.
