10 PP members elected unopposed, 7 others through election

KATHMANDU, June 20: Ten of the total 17 Nepali Congress Parliamentary Party (PP) working committee members have been elected unopposed.



Those elected unopposed include from Madhesi quota Kiran Yadav (woman), Amrit Lal Rajbanshi and Ajaya Chaurasiya and Kabita Sardar from Dalit quota. Likewise, Jagadish Nara Singh KC and Purushottam Basnet have also been elected unopposed. [break]



There is a provision to elect one member each from various five development regions as a member of the PP working Committee. Arjun Joshi (western development region), Ramesh Lekhak (far western development region), Badshah Kurmi (mid-western development region) and Nabindra Raj Joshi (central development region) are also among those elected unopposed.



Dhyan Govind Ranjit, Dhanraj Gurung, Kalyani Rijal, Ishwori Neupane, Sita Gurung, Lila Subba and Pramila Rai (Eastern development region) have been elected through votes. The elected PP leader nominates deputy PP leader in the 19-member PP working committee.



Senior leaders Sher Bahadur Deuba and Ram Chandra Poudel are in the final race for the post of PP leader. Deuba secured 45 votes and Poudel 39 votes in the election conducted earlier in the afternoon. Kul Bahadur Gurung and Suprabha Ghimire, who got 12 votes each, are out of the competition.
