MORANG, March 10: Despite playing with 10 men for more than half of the match, CMG Club Sankata defeated Simrik Saraswati Youth Club 1-0 in the second semifinal on Sunday to set up a title clash with Armed Police Force (APF) in the Rumpum Birat Gold Cup Football Tournament being held in Biratnagar, Morang.

Sudip Limbu scored the all-important goal two minutes before the end of additional 20 minutes following a goalless draw in the regulation time. Limbu sprinted with the ball from the center before sending the ball past custodian Ashok Baral.

Earlier, Sankata´s Samuel Ongono was given marching orders by referee Sachin Amatya in the 43rd minute after he fouled custodian Baral in his bid to head in the danger zone. It was the first red card of the tournament.

In the competitive match, both the teams failed to pose any real threat to the opposition despite creating some chances. In the 21st minute Sankata´s African custodian Ndoe Mbarga Pierre made a heroic save to deny John Dike´s header in Subin Shrestha´s pass. In the 68th minute, Riten Shrestha squandered a chance for Sankata inside the danger zone.

Edris Olainka´s 28th minute strike for Saraswati hit the woodwork.

Sankata´s Ibrahim Olusda was declared the man-of-the-match and awarded Rs 5,000.

The final between APF and Sankata will be played on Tuesday.
