A group of youths had reportedly attempted to rape the school girl while she was returning home from school. Police baton charged on the protestors after they started vandalizing the District Police Office.
Hundreds of students and locals had flocked to the headquarters alleging that the police were dillydallying in registering the case.
"The crowd entered the police office while the case was being discussed inside. In our attempt to bring the situation under control people from both sides were injured," said Deputy Superintendent of Police, Shyam Krishna Adhikari.
Police have already arrested Kamal BK, 20 and Siva Sunar, 18, of Shankarpokhari-8 on the charge of attempting to rape the girl. Police have also arrested one Surya BK and he has admitted to his involvement in the attempted rape.
According to the victim girl, who is a ninth grader at Tribhuvan Higher Secondry School, two youths grabbed her and tried to rape her inside a jungle at Shankarpokhari-9 while she was returning home from school Sunday.
