TAPLEJUNG, May 11: At least 10 climbers successfully climbed Mount Kanchenjunga (8,586 meters), the third highest peak in the world, this spring.
According to Thaneswar Guragai, General Manager of Seven Summit Treks, the ascent took place at 2:15 pm on Saturday, May 10.

Among the climbers who successfully climbed Mount Kanchenjunga, five were Nepali and five were foreign nationals. According to Guragai, the foreign climbers hailed from Kosovo, Iran, and the United Kingdom. The climbers who reached the summit include Flutura Ibrahimi, Adrian Michael Hayes, Alireza Behpour, Saeed Almemari, Seyed Mohammad Reza Hashemi, Lakpa Temba Sherpa, Ngima Dorchi Sherpa, Phur Tshering Sherpa, Gyalu Sherpa, and Changba Sherpa.
According to Guragai, out of a total of 70 individuals involved in the Kanchenjunga expedition—including 23 members from the Nepali and Indian armies—only 10 climbers have successfully reached the summit so far. “The team of 10 who summited is now on their way back; some have already reached Camp,” said Guragai.
He stated that there has been a strong presence at Kanchenjunga this year. According to him, 40 climbers are participating through Seven Summit Treks, while another 30 are climbing through other trekking agencies. Before the ascent began, a team of eight Sherpas secured the route from the base camp up to around 8,400 meters.
Additionally, more than 350 meters of rope were fixed in the final section of the climb to ensure safety before the summit began.
