PHIDIM, April 11: A YouTuber arrested on charges of producing and broadcasting content containing abusive language against Prime Minister Balen Shah and other political leaders has been released.
According to the District Police Office, Panchthar, the accused Roshan Pokharel has been released and handed over to his family on the condition that he will be present when required.
Pokharel, a resident of Phalgunanda Rural Municipality–7 in Panchthar, was arrested on April 9 after allegations that he published offensive and derogatory content targeting the prime minister and other leaders on YouTube.

He was taken into custody following an investigation based on the Cyber Bureau’s findings, and had his detention extended by 10 days by the District Court of Panchthar.
Police said he has now been released under condition of appearance as the investigation continues.
Following his arrest, discussions and criticism intensified on social media, where users began sharing old posts and videos of the mayor in response to the incident.
