Youths taking initiative to save marine life and forests

KANCHANPUR, Dec 27: Youths from Sundari Phanta and Beldandi – located at the bottom of Chure – have come up with ´save the fish campaign´ by discouraging those fishing in the river using poisons.



The youths prohibited the fishermen to catch fishes with the use of poisonous substances in Dharapani stream. [break]



The occupation of catching fish by using pesticides in the stream has come to a halt when the youths started imposing penalty to those going against the move, informed Kul Bir Chaudhary of a local club.



The campaign to save the fish was initiated a couple of years ago by declaring the pesticide free zone, Dil Bahadur Chaudhary, chairperson of the club.



Likewise, the local youths also started patrolling in an effort to prevent timber smuggling from Nawa Durga Women Community Forest.



With the daily patrolling by the youths, action against more than 60 people illegally extracting timbers from the community forest have been taken ,informed community forest secretary Ram Charan Chaudhary.
