Rai, who is from Triyuga of Udayapur, sustained fatal injuries in her abdomen and limbs after Dan Bikram Thapa, 28, from Gorkhe-4, Ilam, stabbed her after an argument with each other along a narrow alley, said Dinesh Chaudhary, DSP of Metropolitan Police Circle Baneshwar.
After fatally stabbing Sumitra with a knife, Dan Bikram also stabbed himself and was admitted to the hospital along with her. He is said to be stable and is receiving treatment in the intensive care unit.
Sumitra had been working at Crystal Finance. According to police, she made friends with Thapa over a year ago.
Doctors declared her dead on Friday morning. Hutta Raj Kharel, a senior constable stationed at the hospital, said the body would be sent to TU Teaching Hospital for post-mortem. Police said no relatives of both parties have come in contact with the police.
