KATHMANDU, Aug 21: More than 30 young artists and photographers met and interacted through a photo challenge competition, initially organized by TheImage Park on Facebook.

Promoting the motto, “sharing and celebration to commemorate World Photography Day,” these volunteers have painted numerous walls depicting several social themes at various locations in Kathmandu, namely Hotel Himalaya, Pulchowk, Hattisar and Bagbazar, which concluded on Saturday, August 20.

Driven by a zeal to contribute towards society and to spread awareness regarding the nation’s current situation, some professional and amateur artists painted based on themes such as, ‘we make the nation’, ‘environment’ and ‘we have become like donkeys.’ The participants explained, “All of us are just blaming each other not making any progress and just going round and round like the donkey’s tail.”

“The idea of the painting was to re-introduce Nepal’s present context and portray a ray of hope by displaying our talents, which means that if all are responsible in their own fields, then our nation’s development is inevitable,” opined Kailash Shrestha, the event coordinator.

Artudio, which is an open sharing platform for painters and photographers, was sponsored by Pashupati paints, which actually contributed the paints while Laxmi Cares provided them with other logistics.

“The spirit of all our youth contributors and their collaborative efforts is the cause of our success, and Saran Tandukar, Rishav Malla, Shreejana Shakya and Awaran Paudel have been a part of it since the start,” said Kailash with pride, however, there are many people who still think inside the box and fail to understand our depictions. They are under the impression that we made these paintings for Gaijatra or for the upcoming Dashain.”
