Wild elephant attack kills one in Bardiya

According to police, the elephant had strayed from Bardiya National Park and attacked Tharu.

BARDIYA, March 13: A man was killed in a wild elephant attack in Bardiya on Wednesday night. The victim has been identified as 60-year-old Baliram Tharu of Thakurbaba Municipality-2, Balati.


According to police, the elephant had strayed from Bardiya National Park and attacked Tharu. The incident occurred at around 11:45 pm when Tharu went to chase away the elephant that had entered his farmland near his house. District Police Office Guleriya’s DSP Rishiram Gharti Magar said that Tharu died on the spot after the elephant trampled his head.

Following the incident, locals blocked the East-West Highway, demanding compensation for the victim’s family. DSP Magar added that a police team led by Superintendent of Police (SP) had been deployed to the site.
