KATHMANDU, Dec 1: Visiting senior leader of the ruling Indian National Congress Karan Singh on Saturday inaugurated a renovated site of Lok Kirti Mahabihar, which is one of nine sites being re-constructed with Indian assistance in capital.

Lok Kirti Mahabihar, which is nearly 700 years old, is one of the hundreds of big and small ancient Buddhist Monasteries and Stupas built in the Kathmandu Valley.[break]

The upgraded facility, built with Indian assistance of NRs. 7.3 million, would provide additional space for meditation and facilitate the convenient stay of training staff and teachers at the Mahabihar.

The project has been implemented by the Department of Urban Development and Building Construction, as part of the construction and restoration work of nine places of historical and cultural importance in Lalitpur District at an estimated cost of NRs. 32.60 million.

During the inauguration ceremony, India envoy to Nepal Jayanta Prasad was also present in the program.
