KATHMANDU, Oct 18: CPN-UML Chairman and former Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has accused the government of arming criminals under the pretext of holding elections.
Speaking at a programme at the party’s central office in Chyasal on Saturday, Oli claimed that 1,200 police firearms and around 100,000 bullets looted during the Gen Z protests have ended up in the hands of criminals. He described the country’s security situation as “extremely dire” and warned that the government was steering the nation toward chaos.

“This is not a minor issue. About 1,200 police weapons have been looted and are now in criminal hands — this is no joke,” Oli said. He further alleged that around 5,500 convicts who had been imprisoned by the courts have been released and are “roaming freely.”
Oli also questioned the government’s commitment to holding elections, accusing it of planning a “drama election” that excludes other political forces.
Criticising the administration’s approach as authoritarian, he said he had been barred from visiting his burned house and from holding a party event in Bhaktapur. “Whenever the nation needs me, I will not hesitate — I will go anywhere within Nepal’s borders,” he declared.
Reiterating that the current government is “unconstitutional,” Oli asserted that the UML would not leave the country under what he described as a “regressive and illegitimate” regime.
