Top leaders of UDMF-- Federal Socialist Forum Nepal (FSFN) Chairman Upendra Yadav, Tarai-Madhes Democratic Party Chairman Mahantha Thakur, Tarai Madhes Sadbhawana Party Chairman Mahendra Ray Yadav and Sadbhawana Party Chairman Rajendra Mahato--are in the Indian capital.
The UDMF leaders informed Janata Dal United Chairman and member of Indian parliament Sharad Yadav about Madhes uprising and the fight Madhesis are waging for the amendment in the country's new constitution which, he said, discriminated against Madhesis and Tharus. The UDMF leaders also met Congress leaders Karan Singh and DP Tripathi.
During their briefings, the UDMF top leaders told the Indian leaders of both the ruling and opposition parties said India was not responsible for the blockade in Nepal. The Madhesi leaders informed Indian leaders that the obstruction was caused by their protests in border areas.
Meanwhile, the UDMF leaders also met Indian Foreign Minister Sushma Swaraj and discussed with her about the dissatisfaction of agitating Madhesis and Tharus towards the country's new statute. Minister for External Affairs (MEA) Spokesperson Vikas Swarup said in a tweet that Swaraj reaffirmed support for an inclusive Nepal.
She also called for broad based ownership of constitution and encouraged speedy political solution and return to normalcy on that basis, Swarup mentioned Swaraj in an another tweet.
Sources claimed that Madhesi leaders called for a united voice from India's both ruling and opposition parties in support of Madhesis' demands.
