SAPTARI, Dec 27: The cadres of the United Democratic Madhesi Front (UDMF) have held demonstrations in Rajbiraj since the early morning today.

The Front cadres held the demonstration to protest what they called police highhandedness in which one of the Front leaders Rajendra Mahato was injured. Mahato is the chairman of the Sadbhavana Party, one of the constituents of the UDMF.

The demonstrators assembled at local Gajendra Chowk, Darshan Chowk, Hospital Chowk among other places have burnt tires. They decried the 'police suppression' and demanded action against the police personnel involved in beating Mahato during the clashes between the protestors and the police in Biratnagar on Saturday.

Leader Mahato sustained head injuries in the clash at the Rani customs in Biratnagar on Saturday. The clash ensued after the police tried to disperse the Front cadres who were holding a sit-in at the customs office, blocking the entry of cargo from the Indian side of the border. RSS
