KATHMANDU, Sept 7: The UCPN (Maoist) has concluded that promulgating a new constitution through the Constituent Assembly (CA) is the party’s top agenda.
A Parliamentary Board meeting of the party on Monday stressed that enforcement of the statute should not be stopped in any pretext.

“The meet concluded that issuing constitution through CA is the main issue,” said UCPN (Maoist) whip Rekha Thapa, “Apart from that, we have decided to make attempts to address genuine demands of the agitating parties.”
In the meeting, UCPN (Maoist) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal proposed to forge agreement by passing ‘genuine’ amendment proposals on the constitution bill through the CA.
Dahal, in the meeting, said that the new statute should be enforced by bringing agitating Tharus and Madheshi Front to accord and the party will make attempts to that end.
Moreover, Dahal proposed of passing the amendment proposal that states the formation of a Tharuhat province incorporating districts from Nawalparasi to Kanchanpur in plains and tasking a commission to settle disputes in demarcation.
UCPN (Maoist) lawmaker Santa Kumar Tharu has registered a proposal of forming a Tharuhat province at the CA Secretariat. The main opposition party will attempt to seek agreement of major three parties on the proposal.
Most of the lawmakers speaking at the meeting criticized the party leadership charging it of giving up its agendas.
The meet assigned Chairman Dahal, Vice-chairman Narayan Kaji Shrestha and leader Baburam Bhattarai for holding talks with agitating Tharu community, whip Sharma informed.
