MAHENDRANAGAR, Nov 17: Maiti Nepal Kanchanpur Branch has rescued a two-year-old girl from an Indian brothel.

The girl, Rina, who originally hails from Dhankuta, was brought to Nepal after rescuing her from a brothel in Agra of Indian State of Uttaranchal, according to Maheshowari Bhatta, chief of Maiti Nepal Kanchanpur Chapter. [break]

“The girl was kept hidden in a brothel. We could rescue the girl easily with the help of Agra police,” said Bhattta. A rescue team led by Bhatta along with the girl´s mother Gita had gone to India last week.

One and half years ago, Gita´s distant aunt Sita Magar had taken Gita and her daughter to India luring her with a promise of a job as a cook. They had entered India through Gaddachouki boarder point in Western Nepal.

“She said that I had to work in a kitchen as a cook. But after two weeks in Agra, She sent me to a brothel for flesh trade,” said Gita. After 7 months captivity in a brothel at Agra, Gita was transported to the city of Meerut. Gita was separated from her suckling daughter.

After one years of separation from the daughter and spending hellish life in the brothel, Gita was rescued by an Indian citizen and brought to Mahendranagar four month ago. “After five month, we could finally rescue and handover the girl to her mother,´ said Bhatta. The brothel owners had kept Gita´s daughter hoping to catch her again when she turned up searching for her.

Indian Police had arrested and filed the case against Sita Magar and an Indian citizen Aamir Ahamad Khan in the connection of human trafficking.

Gita had married to a local youth of Dhankuta two years ago. After the marriage, her husband went Malaysia for greener pasture and went out of contact leaving Gita to fend for herself. Stranded by the husband, Gita followed her Aunt Sita Magar to India hoping to find a job there.

“Now, I don´t have place for refuge as I am in no position to return home in such a situation,” Gita said.

Maiti Nepal chapter Kanchanpur has also said that it cannot provide refuge to Gita. “We have started process to send Gita to the head office," Bhatta said.

Despite joint surveillance of police and Maiti Nepal at Gaddachauki boarder to stop human trafficking, the traffickers have been increasingly using the boarder point to take Nepali women and children to Indian brothel.
