Sarada Saud, 70, of Kathmandu Village Development Committee (VDC) 3, and two-year-old Suresh Bhul Sanagaun-8 died of diarrhea on Monday, according to District Public Health Office (DPHO), Doti. [break]Monitoring and evaluation officer for malaria at the DPHO Tek Raj Ojha said the two died while being taken to hospital for treatment.
Kathmandu, Sanagaun, Pokhari and Ganjari VDCs of Purbi Chouki , Baglek and Kalena VDCs of Paschim Chouki, and ward 1-6 of Silgadi in Doti have been hit by diarrhea outbreak.
People in the district are worried that the disease could turn into Dadeldhura-like epidemic of three years ago. The disease was first reported in June and is yet to be controlled.
"The number of fresh cases is going up every day and patients in remote villages are dying due lack of medicine and health personnel," said human rights activist Lava Dev Bhatta.
The DPHO said over 250 diarrhea patients have been treated in the district with over 100 treated in ward 5 and 6 of Baglek alone.
116 patients were treated in Baglek, 37 in Kalena, 15 in Kathmandu, 12 in Sanagaun and 80 at the District Hospital, according to DPHO. Similar number of patients have been treated at private clinics and Doti Soojung Hospital.
