Two killed during Dashain festival

MAHENDRANAGAR, Oct 26: At least two people have been killed in different incidents during this year´s Dashain festival.



A man was killed in a drunken brawl on Wednesday, the main day of Dashain festival, in Baitadi district. Devi Ram Wod, 24, a resident of Dasarathchanda municipality-6, was killed in a brawl when he was returning home after drinking alcohol and playing cards with his friends.[break]



District Police Office of Baitadi has arrested 11 people in connection to Wod´s death. "Our preliminary investigation has shown that Wod was engaged in a brawl with his friends," Police DSP Kamal Prasad Kharel. "We are yet to pinpoint the exact perpetrators."



Similarly, Manjit Tamang, 23, of Chyasingkharka-9 in Kavre district, was stabbed to death on the same day in Chalal Ganeshtha-2 of Kavre, according to Republica correspondent Madhu Sudan Guragain.



Banepa Police Chief Khem Acharya said that Tamang was attacked when he was watching a cultural program conducted on the occasion of Dashain festival at Ganesh Lower Secondary School. "He was attacked by a group of local youth who had personal enmity against him," Acharya said.



Tamang died while being rushed to Banepa for treatment. The police have arrested one for allegedly stabbing Tamang. "We have learnt that three people were involved in the murder," Acharya said.



-- Two Indians shot dead -



According to Republica correspondent Santosh Singh, two Indian nationals were shot dead on Thursday in Narayanpur of Sarlahi district. Narendra Yadav, 25 and Jitendra Raut Patel, 26, who hailed from Sitamadhi and Sonbarsha in Bihar, India respectively, were found dead. Yadav and Patel, who were arrested for possessing illegal weapons, were released on bail from Malangawa jail in Sarlahi district only a few days ago.
