KATHMANDU, June 6: Handicraft department of Nepal Academy of Fine Arts (NAFA) has started a crafts training program in Dhankuta Municipality from Monday. The program mainly trains the participants to make handicraft materials from surplus cloths of home. The workshop of the training was inaugurated by the mayor of Dhankuta Municipality, Chintan Tamang, amid a special program jointly organized by Handicraft Depart of NAFA and Hamro Bahumukhi Pathsala Dhankuta.

Speaking at the inaugural program, mayor Tamang recommended the participants to learn the skill and use them in a positive way. He emphasized the need of estabtlishing handicraft souvenir shops to promote the local crafts of Dhankuta. The mayor also assured that the municipality would provide all necessary help to promote handicraft of city.
Speaking in the same event, artist Sushma Rajbhandari said that the workshop was focused transforming useless and surplus cloths into decorative materials. The proprietor of Ship Bikash Kendra Dhankuta, Kusum Rana added that the training would help the women of the region to be self-employed. She also suggested other to take benefits from the workshop.
