The meeting of the drafting committee that resumed on Wednesday is mulling over to let the top leaders reach an agreement on the issue.
Following a dispute between ruling parties and main opposition Nepali Congress (NC) over the formation of the parliamentary hearings special committee, the drafting process of the new parliament regulation had been deadlocked for months.
“We are for forging an agreement over member numbers of the hearing committee through the drafting committee,” lawmaker Rewatiraman Bhandari told Republica Online," We have agreed to resolve the issue by Monday even by entrusting the top leaders.”
According to him, clause-wise discussion over the regulation will start from Thursday.
The new constitution has envisaged a 15-member parliamentary hearings special committee comprising members from both the House of Representatives and the National Assembly.
In accordance with the provision, a sub-committee under the regulation drafting committee had proposed a 15-member hearings committee in the draft of the new regulation. However, the draft could not be endorsed from the full committee after being opposed by the lawmakers from NC.
The largest political party in the parliament has been stressing on continuation of the existing hearings committee which comprises 73 members from all political parties in the parliament.
