KATHMANDU, Feb 5:  TikTok has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Election Commission of Nepal (EC) to support election integrity efforts ahead of the 2026 general elections.

The MoU was exchanged at a program held at the EC premises on Tuesday. As part of the collaboration, a TikTok delegation also conducted a capacity-building Election Integrity Workshop for EC officials and key stakeholders.

During the session, EC officials were introduced to tools and features available on TikTok that help users access reliable information, report potential policy violations and understand how election-related content is moderated on the platform.

“Elections are a critical moment for any democracy, and TikTok recognizes its responsibility as a platform that helps shape public discourse,” said Ferdous Mottakin, Head of Public Policy and Government Relations for South Asia at TikTok. “Through this partnership, we aim to support informed participation, promote election integrity and provide a safe space for positive digital expression.”

Welcoming the collaboration, Narayan Prasad Bhattarai, Joint Secretary and Spokesperson of the Election Commission of Nepal, said partnerships with digital platforms play an important role in strengthening electoral processes.

“The Election Commission welcomes this collaboration with TikTok as part of our efforts to promote election integrity and responsible use of digital platforms,” Bhattarai said. “Such partnerships help raise awareness about misinformation and support informed participation during the electoral process.”

According to TikTok, the company will continue working closely with the Election Commission and other relevant stakeholders to bolster election integrity and maintain a reliable information environment for users in Nepal. As a global digital platform, TikTok said ensuring election integrity is essential to maintaining user trust, reducing the risk of misinformation and supporting healthy civic participation.

TikTok has directed users and stakeholders to its Global Elections Integrity Hub for further information on its policies and election-related resources.
