KATHMANDU, June 12: Home Minister Sudan Gurung has assured strict action against those responsible after meeting the family of a woman whose death is alleged to have resulted from medical negligence.
Sujan BK of Ratnanagar Municipality in Chitwan, who has spent the past three months staging protests in Kathmandu demanding justice for his late wife, met the home minister at Singha Durbar on Thursday to press his case.

Carrying his newborn child, Sujan appealed to the minister for justice, alleging that serious negligence by the hospital led to his wife's death during the postnatal period. He said inadequate care and treatment had cost his family a mother and left the future of his infant child uncertain.
Moved by the family's situation, Minister Gurung listened to their concerns and pledged a thorough investigation into the incident.
“The state is the guardian of its citizens. It is deeply unfortunate if someone has lost their life because of hospital negligence. The case will be investigated in depth, and those found responsible will face the strictest legal action,” Gurung said.
Following the meeting, the minister directed ministry officials to immediately form an investigation committee and establish the facts surrounding the case as quickly as possible.
He also assured the family that anyone found responsible on the basis of the investigation report would be brought under the legal process.
