In the competitive final match held on Friday, TIA registered a hard fought 26-23 victory over Golden Peak. Buddha Gurung and Anish Shahi contributed 10 points each for the winning side. The Kathmandu Valley secured third place enjoying walkover from the Gyan Niketan.
Anish Shahi of TIA was adjudged the most valuable player. Similarly, Shankar Lama of Golden Peak bagged the highest scorer award with 75 points in his account while the best three pointer title went to Ashish KC of Greenland.
In junior boys´ category, Greenland registered a narrow 15-13 win over Deepjyoti riding on 10 points of Milan Puri. Defending champion Valley Public was contended in the third place. Valley edged out Prithvi 21-10 with seven points apiece from Sanjiv Khadka and Kisor Thapaliya.
In junior boys´ category, Umesh Pun from the host team was awarded as the most valuable player and his team mate Prajwal Gurung bagged the highest scorer title for scoring 65 points. Nepal Basketball Association President Lama Tendi Sherpa among others gave away the prizes.
Kantipur, Rato Bangala into quarters

KATHMANDU, Aug 21: Kantipur and Rato Bangala secured place for the last four under the senior girls´ category on Friday in the Fifth Monsoon Meet Basketball Tournament being held at the Sridiwa School´s court.
With 16 points from Ronali Limbu, Kantipur registered a comfortable 35-10 win over Brihaspati. Similarly, Rato Bangala outplayed the hosts Sridiwa with a narrow 16-15 win. Salin Shah netted eight points for the winners. Likewise, Shuvatara and Teresa also secured semifinal berths. Shuvatara crushed Galaxy 25-18 and Teresa downed Pen Wood 28-21.
In junior boys´ category, Galaxy, Arunodaya, Sridiwa and Gyanodaya advanced into the semis.
Chess team off to Lanka
KATHMANDU, Aug 21: A seven-member Nepali chess team on Friday left for the Morakings International Chess Tournament to be held in Colombo, the Sri Lankan capital, from September 10-16.

The Nepali team consists of veteran Sitaram Agrawal, Rajendra Prasad Shrestha, Shyam Shrestha, Bijay Gurung and Govinda Khadka. National arbiter Umesh KC and official Eklal Shrestha are the other members of the team.
The tournament will feature nine rounds of matches under the Swiss League System has the total cash prize of Sri Lankan currency 400,000.
Nepal Chess Association (NCA) President Rajesh Hari Joshi bade farewell to the team amidst a function.
