KATHMANDU, April 3: In a major step to ensure the timely publication of SEE results, answer script evaluation has started across 1,961 exam centers nationwide. This year’s SEE began on Thursday, with the first day dedicated to the compulsory English paper.

At Padma Kanya Secondary School in Dillibazar, Kathmandu, the English exam concluded in the morning, and answer script evaluation began just two hours later, said center chief Rita Tiwari. The center hosted 305 students from eight schools, of whom three were absent.

“For the compulsory English exam, 302 students participated. The three-hour exam ended at 11 AM, after which the answer scripts were stamped and kept at the center under police supervision,” Tiwari said. “By 1 PM, examiners were already checking the scripts based on the answer key under CCTV monitoring.”

According to Tiwari, two examiners per roster will complete the evaluation within three days, after which moderation will follow. The evaluated and moderated scripts are then sent to the District Education and Coordination Unit.

Tiwari highlighted that this system is a strong example of efficiency. “The government has designated all 1,966 exam centers as answer script evaluation hubs, making teachers and center chiefs accountable. SEE is now conducted like other school-level exams, with no last-minute chaos or additional supervision required,” she said.

The first day’s exam went off peacefully and in an orderly manner, she added.

Similarly, at Vishwa Niketan Exam Center in Tripureshwor, Kathmandu, 307 students from seven schools appeared for the English exam. Center chief Herambraj Kandel said three rostered examiners began evaluation under CCTV and police supervision.

“The evaluation of each exam starts the same day,” Kandel said. “We take this responsibility seriously. The SLC exam, which started in 1990 BS, is now called SEE. Previously, scripts were stamped and submitted to police posts after exams—this practice has ended.”

With immediate evaluation and moderation at the exam centers, SEE results can now be published within a month, compared to three months previously, when students had to wait.

Education, Science and Technology Minister Sasmit Pokharel issued a directive to publish SEE results within a month, and the National Examination Board (NEB) implemented a roadmap to make this possible.

“With SEE results available within a month, Class 11 admissions and exams will happen on time, and Class 12 schedules will also remain unaffected,” Tiwari said. “This ensures that university education proceeds on schedule, and students’ academic sessions are not wasted.”

Semant Raj Acharya, Chief of Kathmandu District Education and Coordination Unit, said daily evaluation starts immediately after exams in all 1,966 centers nationwide. “In Kathmandu, 135 exam centers host 41,000 students. Except for Sundhara Prison, all 134 centers have been made evaluation hubs. In two centers where examiners were absent, neighboring centers provided support,” he said.

Despite limited resources and manpower, Acharya said the evaluation is proceeding efficiently. “The unit must send evaluated scripts to the NEB within five days. Examiners who have evaluated SEE scripts in the past two years are rostered for this duty,” he added.

SEE Controller Tukaraj Adhikari confirmed that Thursday’s exams were conducted peacefully and orderly across all centers. “After the compulsory English exam, evaluation began immediately. This year, 512,961 students registered for SEE,” he said.
