The reality of using pick-up lines

KATHMANDU, Nov 12: Most pick up lines are corny, but there are some that work really well. Unlike in movies, where the use of a good pick up line at a bar is usually where the story takes off or even in the case of a bad one, the girl or the guy somehow understands that the other person is trying really hard and gives in, being on the either side in real life can be really embarrassing though.

Nayana Shrestha, 19, recalls “This one time, a guy asked me ‘Would you date me?’ out of nowhere and not only was it awkward but downright embarrassing.”[break]

There are those classic cheesy pick up lines that you can’t really be sure of, a person with a good sense of humor might understand the hilarity of the moment and get along but reactions just differ from people to people. “Is your father a scientist because you are an atom bomb,” is 30-year-old Alok Thapa’s all time favorite pick up line.

And there’s that no-beating-round-the-bush technique like one shared by Manzel Uprety on our Facebook page, “Movie tomorrow?”

Shital Shrestha also shared, “When I was little tipsy once, I told this cute bassist of a band, ‘You have only two options. Either you call me or I’ll call you.’ You can guess what the outcome was,” leaving us thinking.

Unless you’re Barney Stinson of the sitcom ‘How I Met Your Mother’, you can’t really be sure of how the other person will react to your effort. But being on the other side is sheer bad luck sometimes.
