Subsidized rate of salt at Rs 55/kg in Solu

SOLUKHUMBU, Oct 11: Locals of Chheskam VDC in Solukhumbu district have been excited after they got one kg of subsidized salt at Rs. 55 while it costs Rs. 75 at shops in the VDC.



The salt was provided by the government in subsidy. The VDC is some 65 kms away from the district headquarters.[break]



Before this, the locals had no excess to subsidised salt.



Durga Kulung of the VDC said he is happy as all the villagers got salt this time.



The Salt Trading Corporation has been providing per kg of salt at Rs. 9 in the district headquarters, Salleri, but transportation charge per kg of salt is Rs. 42 from Salleri to Chheskam.



This time each household has got 14 kgs of salt. Before this, some leaders of the VDC used to come to the district headquarters and receive all salt on behalf of the villagers and would sell the salt, but this time, all the villagers have got salt this time after a local cooperatives took the responsibility of selling the salt.



Similarly, a local cooperatives also started to distribute salt provided in subsidy in Gudel VDC from this year.



Salt distributor Kitab Singh Kulung said per kg of salt is being distributed at Rs. 50 in Gudel VDC.
