According to NSA General Secretary Jagat Man Shrestha, swimmers will vie for 58 gold medals, including 34 in age group categories, during the tournament. "A male and a female swimmer will be selected on the basis of performance in this championship to participate in the Asian Swimming Championship to be held in Dubai in November," said Shrestha. "It is also a selection tournament for the 11th FINA World Championship to be held in Istanbul, Turkey in December," he added.
NSA has also informed that it will reward swimmers with Rs 5,000 cash incentives, if they set new national record in their respective categories during the three-day championship.
"On this occasion, we´ll also felicitate current national record holders and Olympian swimmers," said Shrestha. There are 10 Olympian swimmers so far.
Udayapur clinches handball title
KATHMANDU: Udayapur clinched the title of the First U-20 National Women´s Handball Tournament on Thursday. Udayapur thrashed Kaski 10-1 in the final match played at the Nepal Police Training Academy, Maharajgunj in Kathmandu. Dolakha edged past Dang 6-0 in the third place playoff. Ranjana Rai of Udayapur received the award of best player of the tournament, organized by Nepal Handball Association.
Kaski´s Alisha Lamichhane was adjudged the best goalkeeper of the tournament while Udayapur´s Bandana Rai, who scored 31 goals in the tournament, received award of the highest scorer. National Sports Council Member Secretary Yuvaraj Lama, Nepal Police DIG Tapendra Dhoj Hamal and Armed Police Force AIG Durja Kumar Rai handed over awards and prizes to the winners. Altogether nine teams from eight districts had participated in the tournament.
Thapa reaches last 16
KATHMANDU: Bijay Thapa of Bhairahawa reached the pre-quarterfinal round of the First London Open Snooker Tournament. Thapa defeated Saroj Khadgi of Kathmandu 4-3 in a best-off-seven match played at the London Snooker House in Lalitpur on Thursday. Likewise, Ram Kaji Maharjan, Keshar Malla, Dinesh Gosain, Som Bahadur Tamang, Deepak Thapa Magar, Sanatan Pratap Malla and Tashi Wangchuk won their respective matches on Thursday to book berths in the round of last 16.
CACCI - FNCCI Annual Golf Challenge
KATHMANDU: The Confederation of Asia-Pacific Chamber of Commerce (CACCI) and the Federation of Nepalese Chamber of Commerce and Industries (FNCCI) are jointly organizing CACCI-FNCCI Annual Golf Challenge on Saturday at the Gokarna Golf Club. The tournament has been organized coinciding with the 26th CACCI conference that is scheduled to be held in Nepal from Wednesday. According to Gokarna Golf Club, the tournament will be played over 18 holes, on a stableford format with ¾ handicap allowance.
About 80 golfers including 15 international participants will vie for the trophy. "This tournament has been organized to showcase Nepal´s golfing facility and to promote golf tourism in the country. We will make this an annual event," said Nepal Golf Association´s former President, Pradeep Kumar Shrestha, who is also a member of CACCI.
