In men´s football tournament, Int´l College of Hospitality Management (ICHM) and defending champion Capital College and Research Center (CCRC) secured place in the last four winning their respective matches. ICHM defeated Nepal School of Social Works in sudden death after 1-1 draw in regulation time. CCRC edged past Cosmos 4-2 in penalty shootout following goalless draw in regulation time.
Sankata, MYA off to flying start
KATHMANDU: Sankata Club and Madhyapur Youth Association (MYA) made flying starts in the Red Bull B Division National Football League that kicked off on Monday at the Buddhibikash ground, Lagankhel.
Sankata Club of Kathmandu registered a comfortable 4-1 win over Kasturi Yuva Club of Siraha and MYA of Bhaktapur thumped Trinity Club of Syangjha 4-0.
Sankata, the champion of the recently held B division football league, dominated the show but had to wait until 40th minute to open scoring. Ritesh Khadka, Ram Kumar Kumal, Ashik Thapa Magar and Sandesh Chaudhary scored one apiece in Sankata´s victory. Sandesh Chaudhary hit the consolation for Kasturi.
In another match, the runner up of B division football league MYA scored two goals each in either half in its comfortable victory over Trinity. Nirajan Rayamajhi netted twice for MYA in the 44th and 55th minute. Earlier, Sujan Pradhananga had given 28th minute lead to MYA while Kishor Duwal had scored third goal for the team in the 51st minute.
The National B division league features eight teams including top six teams of the B division football league and two other teams qualified from B division districts as classified by the ANFA.
Birgunj Youth Academy will play against Tusal Yuva Club and Shree Laligurans Pulchowk Sports Club will lock horns with Chyasal Youth Club on Tuesday.
Gorkha Boys storms into semifinal
DHANKUTA: Gorkha Boys Sports Club of Rupandehai on Monday thrashed Samrat Sports Club of Morang 7-0 and stormed into the semifinal of Invitational International Bhojpur Gold Cup Football Tournament in Bhojpur. Gorkha Boys will now meet ANFA Academy in the semifinal. Former Nepal international and Gorkha Boys skipper Surendra Tamang emerged hero for the winning side as he netted twice and set up teammates for three more goals.
Jagunath Khadka gave early lead to winning side and Saurab Magar made it 2-0 before interval. Krishna Lama, Raj Paudel and Rabin Thapa scored one apiece in the second half. Tamang was declared the man-of-the-match. Dhankuta Football Club will lock horn against United Kharsang Football Club of Darjeeling in the first semifinal on Tuesday.
Corporate beach cricket next week
KATHMANDU: Shangri-La Cricket Academy is organizing the fourth edition of Corporate Beach Cricket on the banks of Trishuli River at Riverside Spring Resort, Kurintar on March 30 and 31.
The beach cricket tournament was first held in 2009 with eight participating teams and the number of participants has been increasing every year, the organizers informed at a press meet on Monday. They said the main aim of corporate beach cricket is to provide a cricketing platform for all corporate houses to share warm relationship through sports.
Corporate beach cricket matches will be played in the super sixes format with colored balls and colored dress. Bankers will compete in the first phase of the tournament.
In total, 12 banks are participating in the first phase to be held on March 30 and 31. The second phase scheduled to be held on April 20 and 21 will feature the corporate teams.
According to the organizers, the event aims to promote domestic tourism and has plans to organize international level corporate cricket by 2013. Nepal Tourism Board will take the initiative to bring international teams for corporate beach cricket.
