SPORTS BRIEFS: Lamsal sets world record in non-stop two-wheeler ride

KATHMANDU, Dec 15: Constable of Nepal Community Police, Shamsher Lamsal has set a new world record in the longest non-stop two-wheeler ride, without letting his foot touch the ground.



Lamsal rode a Honda CB Twister bike for 25 hours, covering a distance of 957 km. Issuing a press statement, Syakar Trading Company, the authorized distributor of Honda bikes, said Constable Lamsal had begun his journey from Ratnapark on November 20 and stopped his bike only after 25 hours at Bhajuratna Engineering and Sales, Narayanghat on November 21. "The necessities such as fuel, food and water were coordinated without disrupting his attempt," reads the statement. Lamsal had traveled through Kathmandu-Narayanghat-Hetauda-Narayanghat-Butwal-Hetauda and stopped at Narayanghat. The event was planned, coordinated and executed by 81e Pvt Ltd.



Rayamajhi scores again in MYA´s win



KATHMANDU
: Former national team striker Nirajan Rayamajhi scored for Madhyapur Youth Association (MYA) in his second consecutive appearance as it defeated Chyasal Youth Club 2-0 on Thursday in the Martyrs Memorial Red Bull B Division Football League.



The win lifted MYA to third position with 18 points after nine matches. Birgunj which has played eight matches is in second place despite having equal points as that of MYA on the basis of goals superiority. Star Club leads the table with 19 points. [break]



On Thursday´s match, MYA scored both goals during the last moment of either halves. Manoj Ranjit put MYA in charge in the stoppage time of first half while Rayamajhi ensured victory one minute before the final whistle. In another match, relegation battlers Gyan Bhairav club defeated Boys Sports Club 1-0 to register its second win in the league.



Deepak Karki scored lone goal in the 37th minute. After playing 10 matches, Gyan Bhairav climbed to 11th position with nine points while Boys Sports is in 12th place with seven points.



Odyssey, TIA win titles


KATHMANDU: Odyssey International Academy and Trungram International Academy (TIA) on Thursday lifted the junior boys´ and senior girls´ titles of Second Deneb Valley-wide Inter -school Basketball Tournament respectively. In junior boys´ title clash, Odyssey saw off Teresa 31-23. Ashok Pyakurel netted the highest 15 points for Odyssey.



Teresa´s Jayram Tamang was declared the most valuable player. In senior girls´ final, TIA registered a hard fought 26-22 win over Teresa. Prasidhi Hamal of TIA was adjudged the most valuable player. NOBS under boys´ section and Balmandir under girls´ section were declared fair play teams. Altogether 17 teams in boys´ section and eight teams in girls section had competed in the event.



NASA, Premier set final clash


KATHMANDU: NASA International and Premier College on Thursday set up a final clash in the First Sachindra Memorial Open Men´s Basketball Tournament being held in the capital. NASA edged past host NCCG´sters 101-72 in semifinal. Robin Khatri top scored with 38 points for the winning side. In another semis, Premier ousted Morgan 78-67 riding on 21 points of Sadis Pradhan. The final will be held on Saturday at host Nepal Commerce Campus court.



Saipal A Level Meet from today

KATHMANDU: Saipal Academy is organizing the First Saipal A Level Meet 2011 at its premises in Dhumbarahi from Friday. The two-day event features competitions in six different categories, including 3-on-3 basketball and tug-of-war.



Altogether nine teams have registered for the event.



Matches of 3-on-3 basketball will be held in league-cum-knockout format. Pool A features Chelsea International, Ace Institute of Management, AJW College, Kathmandu Academy and GEMS, while Pool B consists of Xavier International, National College, Modern Indian School and the host, Saipal.



Chelsea will take on Ace in the opener on Monday.



The top two teams from each pool will make it to the semifinals scheduled to be held on Saturday.



The event is being organized to foster cordial relationship among the A Level colleges and also to enhance the talents of the students, the organizers said during a press conference on Thursday.



Besides basketball and tug-of-war, the event also includes extempore speech, open presentation, essay writing, counter strike and blood donation program.



“We are also organizing a blood donation program to fulfil our social obligation,” said Lokraj Giri, chairman of Saipal Academy. The organizers are expecting about 100 people to donate blood on the closing day on Saturday.



Police School, Rambhakta win

BANEPA: Nepal Police School of Belchautara, Tanahun and Rambhakta Memorial School of Banepa registered victories on Thursday in the 20th Inter-school IGP Football Running Trophy organized by Nepal Police Higher Secondary School, Sanga. In its first match of the league round, Nepal Police School, Belchautara thumped Emmanuel School of Dhulikhel 7-0. Rambhakta edged past Nightingale 2-0.



Similarly, the A team of host Nepal Police School, Sanga played a 1-1 draw against Dhulikhel Boarding School. In another match, LRI was declared winner after it received a walkover from Adarsha Janapremi School.
