SPORTS BRIEFS: Lal Bahadur betters personal record in China

KATHMANDU, June 5: Debutant Lal Bahadur Thapa on Thursday finished 10th in the 5000m race at the 21st Asian Athletics Championships being held in Wuhan, China. He completed the distance in 14 minutes and 43.27 seconds.



Despite finishing 10th among 14 participants, Lal Bahadur bettered his personal record of 15 minutes and 07.21 seconds that he had set up during 14th National Athletics Championship. Qatar's Mohamad Algarni came first clocking 13 minutes and 34.47 seconds in the event.

Para Taekwondo distributes relief
KATHMANDU: Nepal Para Taekwondo Association on Friday distributed relief materials to the earthquake victims of ward number 1, 2, 3 and 7 of Chalal VDC of Kavrepalanchowk.


The association's members were involved in the relief distribution program. They also provided relief materials to para taekwondo players Ram Bahadur Tamang, Sita Bhandari, Nawaraj Karki and Som Bahadur Sunar.


Rupandehi enters semis
KATHMANDU: Deepak Rai scored a hat-trick and steered Rupandehi XI into the Tilottama Gold Cup semifinals with a 5-2 thrashing of Darjeeling XI at the ANFA Technical Center in Butwal on Friday.

Pukar Gahatraj and Bimal Gharti Magar added a goal each for Rupandehi while Avon Rai and Bhaichong Rai netted apiece for the visiting side.

Jhapa XI will take on Tribhuvan Army in the other semifinal on Saturday.
