NTV dethrones Image Channel
KATHMANDU: Nepal Television (NTV) on Saturday lifted the trophy of Fifth Direction Nepal Media Cup Football Tournament. NTV defeated defending champion Image Channel 3-2 in extra time. Sunil Tamrakar gave Image the lead in the first half while Prajjwal Shakya scored an equalizer in the dying minutes of the second half to take the game into extra time.
Image again took the lead through a goal from Devendra Maharjan but could not hold its lead for long as Shakya scored his second goal to level the score. Bal Krishna Paudel gave NTV the victory with a goal just minutes before the final whistle during the extra time. Altogether 14 teams had participated in the week-long tournament.
Waiba wins Fighter of the Year title
KATHMANDU: Kanchha Lal Waiba of Narayani on Saturday won the title belt of the Fighter of the Year during the Nationwide Men´s Open Full contact Karate Tournament. In the final held at Lainchour Table Tennis Academy, Waiba defeated Bir Man Lama of Kathmandu and bagged Rs 10,000.
Aditya Rana of Rapti finished third while Ravi Maharjan of Banepa settled for the fourth position. Second, third and fourth positions winners received Rs 5,000, Rs 3,000 and Rs 2,000 respectively. Altogether 14 players from 14 districts participated in the tournament.
Maharjan duo off to winning start
KATHMANDU: Sajin Maharjan and Saurav Maharjan of Patan Multiple Campus started the First Kathford National University Chess Tournament with a win on Saturday. Prakash Nepal of Damak Campus and Purushottam Chaulagain also registered wins. Top seeded Madan Kayastha of GoldenGate, Krishna Maharjan of Richmond International College, Ramesh Adhikari of Central Campus and Rajan Maharjan of ACE College satisfied for a draw. Altogether 143 players from five universities are competing in the five-day tournament.
